Hi There! Welcome to my blog. My name is Heather. I am a stay at home mother of two wonderfully crazy toddlers. My daughter is 3 1/2 and my son just turned 2. I love being a mom. It was something I have always wanted and once I became one I was lucky enough to be able to be a Stay at Home Mom. I am 37 and just recently was also able to finish getting my degree. I now have a bachelors in Microbiology.
Science was my first passion and I had been going to school off and on for quite awhile trying to accomplish my degree while at the same time just trying to figure out life. My husband is former military and for some time we were moving around quite a bit. When he got out and we were able to settle down we decided it was a good time to start a family. Once I became a mother, after unsuccessfully trying for over 2 years, motherhood became my new passion.
Raising my daughter became my everything and shortly before her 1st birthday I was lucky enough to become pregnant again. Once I felt comfortable enough to have someone take care of them for an extended period of time, I decided to go back to school and finish, since I was so close. Leaving them with someone else was very hard for me, I felt like I was letting them down by continuing something that was just for me. Now that I have finished, the age old question comes up all the time “What are you going to do with your degree?” And to that I don’t have much of an answer. I am happy taking care of my children right now. They need me right now. Maybe when they both start school, it would make more sense for me to get a job and work up to a career in the Research Scientist field. I would enjoy my career field and could see myself in a lab trying to discover something, but for now I want to be home with my children.
Is it easy?; NO, it’s not. Being a stay at home mom is the hardest thing I’ve ever had to do. It can get overwhelming at times, and sometimes you forget to take care of yourself in the process. This is one of the reasons I wanted to start a blog. I started self reflecting and trying to find out what I am truly passionate about and the one thing that always came to mind is being a mom. So I then tried to figure out how I could monetize that passion. My husband thus far has worked selflessly in providing for our family and it can be stressful at times knowing you are the sole provider. I would love to be able to give him a little relief in that and express my passion about my motherhood journey at the same time.
So what can you expect from my blog? I want to share my experiences ranging from the first time I found out I was pregnant up until what it’s like have two full-blown toddlers. With my first pregnancy I was always reading blogs and searching the internet for information, or just for someone that was having the same symptom or experience or problem that I was. You just want to feel connected to someone sometimes and know that you are not alone. So I want to share the things I have learned along the way. The things that have worked well for me and also the things I wish I would have known sooner. It is my hope that a new mom or any parent for that matter, can get some great tips, comfort, or understanding in their own life, from my journey.
You can also expect a little of the science behind things to be thrown into the mix. I like trying to understand why something is happening and then figuring out how to solve it. Being a science major I am also fascinated by the fact that a woman can grow life. I was amazed by what my body could do during those 9-10 months. And now I just look at my children sometimes in awe at the wonderful lives my husband and I have created. Watching the way babies/toddlers minds work and how they learn things and absorb all the knowledge around them is truly remarkable. Motherhood is the most incredible journey and we are all just trying to raise the best humans we can. Let’s give each other support and comfort in knowing we are not alone.
And also, we LOVE Disney. This was our first family trip to Disneyland right before my daughter’s 3rd birthday. There will be some posts about Disneyland trips and how to make the best use of your time. It is sometimes hard to stick to an itinerary with kids, especially young kids. Finding that right balance between having a plan and going with the flow during vacations is key, as well as lots of snacks.
So I hope you enjoyed getting to know a little about me. I am so grateful you stopped by.
